Our Heritage & Growth

Thomas Armstrong Group was founded in 1830, establishing a reputation for craftsmanship, reliability, and innovation that has endured for nearly two centuries.

Building on this foundation, Thomas Armstrong (Aggregates) Ltd was formed in 1986 to meet the growing demand for high-quality aggregates and cement across Northern England and Southern Scotland.

Since then, we have expanded through major investments in our Overby Quarry near Silloth and Cardewmires Quarry in Carlisle, strengthening our local supply base. The opening of cement terminals at Workington and Sunderland further extended our reach, ensuring we could deliver at scale to both regional and national projects.

Today, as part of the wider Thomas Armstrong Group, we combine heritage and modern expertise with a commitment to quality, sustainability, and service — values that have underpinned our growth for generations.

Commitment to Quality & Service

At Thomas Armstrong (Aggregates) Ltd, quality is never an afterthought — it’s built into everything we do. All of our aggregates and cement are UKCA marked and supported by ISO 9001:2015 certification, ensuring every product meets strict standards for safety, durability, and performance.

But quality on its own isn’t enough. We know our customers depend on reliable supply to keep projects moving. That’s why we invest in a modern haulage fleet, managed by an experienced logistics team, to make sure deliveries arrive on time and in the right quantities.

For us, service means more than simply fulfilling an order. It means being a partner you can depend on: providing clear communication, flexible solutions, and the confidence that your materials will be there when you need them most.

Sustainability at Our Core

We recognise that supplying aggregates and cement comes with a responsibility to the environment. That’s why sustainability is built into the way we operate, from the products we supply to the way we move them.

Recycling

Our range includes recycled aggregates, providing a practical alternative that reduces waste and conserves natural resources. By sourcing materials locally from our own quarries, we also cut down on transport miles, lowering emissions and improving efficiency.

Modernisation

Across our operations, we continue to invest in responsible quarrying, modern plant, and waste management practices to minimise our environmental impact. For our customers, it means the confidence of working with a supplier that not only delivers quality, but also supports a more sustainable future for the construction industry.

Our Facilities & Regional Reach

Our strength lies not just in the quality of our products, but in the facilities and infrastructure that support them.

From Overby Quarry near Silloth and Cardewmires Quarry in Carlisle, we supply a wide range of aggregates to meet the demands of construction, infrastructure, and landscaping projects. To complement this, our cement terminals at Workington and Sunderland give us the capacity to handle bulk cement distribution efficiently across the region.

Backed by a dedicated fleet of modern vehicles, we’re able to deliver reliably throughout Northern England and Southern Scotland. Whether it’s bulk loads direct to site or bagged materials for local supply, our network ensures products arrive on time and to the standards our customers expect.
